There are only a few things that are prohibited, or haram, in Islam. Besides those, everything is halal in Islam. Islam also promotes physical activities. There are many indoor games that have been certified as halal by Islamic scholars. Let’s get started.
Scavenger Hunt
List the names of Islamic-themed items and hide them around the house. Hide fezzes, Ihrams, and other items and ask your child to find them. You can increase or decrease the difficulty level depending on the age of the child. It is not only fun but also helps a child develop investigative skills.
Word Chain
We know that the Almighty has 99 names. You can ask your child to recite one name of the Almighty, then ask another child to recite another name that starts with the last letter of the previous name. It can go on in a loop for a while. It’s great for the mental agility of children and their Islamic knowledge and enrichment as well. Word Chain can be played in different ways, such as with the names of Sahabas or the cities of Arab countries. This game has many versions, and you can create your own.
Making a Prayer Rug
This is another game that will bring your child closer to Islamic lifestyle and ultimately to Allah. Give your child a large piece of paper or fabric and ask them to make their own prayer rug. After making their own rug, they will feel close to it and will most likely end up using it for prayer. We tend to feel attached to things we create ourselves. You can also ask your child to make prayer clothing. It might not be actual clothing, but it will instill a sense of Islam in their heart.
Legos
Give your child a box of Lego and ask them to build mosques, flags of Islamic countries, and other items. It’s very beneficial for developing creative thinking skills. They can practice their imagination and turn their ideas into reality with the help of Legos. Legos are popular indoor games for kids in many countries.
Writing Down Verses
Ask your child to write down verses from the Quran and see who writes them the best. This will help them remember the verses well and improve their Arabic handwriting. You can also include Hadith in this game to enhance their knowledge, similar to how Hazrat Aisha did in her childhood.
Making a House with Sofas
This is one of the most favorite games for kids. Ask your children to make houses or mosques with the sofas in your home and say prayers there. They will enjoy it very much and will be more willing to pray in the tiny house they built themselves.
Azan Recitation Competition
Arrange a simple Azan recitation program and evaluate who recites it the best. It will foster a healthy competitive spirit and enrich their knowledge.
